Canada is always been an immigrant-friendly nation, providing great career and study opportunities to immigrants. On April 5th, 2022, Canada has announced to increase in the fee for Permanent Resident applications. IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) informed that it would be rising the fees for every Canada Permanent Residence application from April 30, 2022, because of this now getting Canadian PR is going to become slightly costlier from May,2022. You should know that the cost of obtaining a permanent residence visa differs depending on the immigration program you select. Increased fees charges for PR applications will impact those applicants who come under permit holder, family class, humanitarian classes, and economic immigrants.
For the first time since 2002, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) increased the fees for Canada Permanent Residence to account for the inflation in 2020. IRCC declared at the time that it would be rising the fees every two years to adjust for inflation. All amounts are in Canadian dollars. You must be aware that RPRF (Right of Permanent Residence Fee) is paid by PR applicants when their applications get selected. You will not get a Permanent Residence status until you pay the right of permanent residence fee.

Besides this new permanent residence application fee, all PR applicants may also have to pay the RPRF which is $500. Only those PR applicants have to pay this fee whose Permanent Residence applicant has been granted, if your PR application gets rejected for any reason you don’t have to be perplexed the fee will be refunded. Applicants can pay this fee at the time of submitting their PR visa applications.
The RPRF (Right of Permanent Residence Fee) does not apply to
- Applications for sponsorship of adopted children
- The dependent children of the sponsor or the principal applicant
- Protected persons, that includes applicants eligible on the basis of humanitarian grounds, compassionate grounds, and convention refugees.
- Sponsorship applications for an orphaned relative, such as brother, niece, sister, grandchild, nephew.
If you are thinking about the fees for PR Cards, replacement immigration documents, or permanent resident travel certification and documents then you don’t have to worry because they will not increase. You need to be aware that the next fee hike on PR applications at the federal level will be announced in 2024.
