The categories for the express entry draws are based upon the labor required in the country. As Canada is going through a labor shortage, the occupations in the express entry draw are occupations facing scarcity of labor but are in high demand.

Find out if your occupation is in demand here.

In 2023, express entry draws are focusing on the following qualities of the candidates

  • Strong french proficiency
  • Credible work experience in the following fields –
  • Health care
  • STEM professions – Science, technology, engineering, mathematics
  • Trade professions – Carpenters, plumbers, contractors

The new categories seek to cater to the french speaking districts of Canada and increase the number of french speaking immigrants in Canada.

If you practice any one of the above mentioned professions and have knowledge of French, then it is a lucky year for you!

You can apply for any program under express entry and are eligible for the express entry draw too.

CANADA EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW – HOW ARE THE CATEGORIES CHOSEN?

The categories for the express entry draw are chosen following legislative discussion and debates by the provinces. The requirements of the provinces are put forth in these meetings and members of industries, unions, workers among others, come together to form the demands that are eventually sent to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Ministry.

The provinces also practice autonomy over the candidates if they apply under the provincial nominee program.
