ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM (AIP)

ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM

WHAT IS THE ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM (AIP)?

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is designed to attract skilled and semi-skilled overseas workers willing to become Atlantic PR (permanent resident) in one of Canada’s Atlantic provinces, i.e. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. AIP allows Atlantic province employers to identify, recruit and retain skilled workers who can fulfil their requirements.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM (AIP)?

Here are some of the basic Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) eligibility requirements that applicants have to fulfil to become eligible to apply – 

  • Applicants must have the required work experience.
  • Be able to meet the educational requirements.
  • Language Proficiency is needed: (IELTS, CELPIP, TCF and, TEF)
  • Applicants may have to show settlement funds (if required).
  • Must have a valid job offer from the Atlantic province’s employer.
  • Applicant’s occupation should lie in any one of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill types.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS UNDER THE ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM (AIP)?

There are three immigration pathways within the AIP that are intended for candidates from diverse categories:

Atlantic High-Skilled Program

Atlantic High-Skilled stream is for highly skilled workers who possess work experience in management, professional, or technical/skilled occupations.

Eligibility Requirements: – 

1. Must have a valid full-time permanent job offer from the Atlantic province employer.

2. Occupation should lie in National Occupational Classification (NOC) type 0, A, or B.

3. Must have at least one year of work experience in the past 3 years.

4. Meet the academic qualification requirements of the job.

5. Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is required for overseas credentials. 

6. Language Proficiency: Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4 is required.

Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program

Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program is for applicants who have work experience in jobs that require job-specific training. Applicants applying through this program need to have experience in National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level C.

Eligibility Requirements: – 

1. Applicants have to show settlement funds (if required)

2. Must have a full-time job offer from an Atlantic province employer 

3. Meet the academic qualification requirements of the job.

4. Applicants Must have at least one year of work experience in the past 3 years.

5. A language proficiency report is required: (IELTS score, CELPIP score, TCF score, and TEF score).

Atlantic International Graduate Program

Atlantic International Graduate Program is designed for overseas students who have completed a degree, diploma, or any other academic credentials from an Atlantic province public-funded educational institution.  

Eligibility Requirements: – 

1. Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4 of language proficiency is required.

2. Applicants have to show settlement funds

3. Must have a full-time permanent job offer from the Atlantic province employer.

4. The job offer should fall in the NOC skill types 0, A, and B.

5. Must have completed at least 2 years of the degree, diploma, or any other academic credentials from an Atlantic province public-funded educational institution.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM (AIP)?

Follow the following steps to apply for Permanent Residency in Canada under Atlantic Immigration Program: –

Submit an application to Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Wait for the approval

After getting approval you can move to Atlantic province Canada.

What is a Settlement Plan?

Applicants who want to move to the Atlantic provinces of Canada through any of the three Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) streams need a settlement plan after getting a job offer from an Atlantic province employer. A settlement plan is designed to help applicants and their families settle in Atlantic Canada by emphasising certain resources. Additionally, Provide you with information and referrals to free services in your new community.

How do I get a Certificate of Endorsement?

Once applicants have a settlement plan in Canada, they should communicate to their employer to get their job offer endorsed by the province government where they will move. Applicants don’t have to submit their Canada Permanent Residence application until the province endorses their job offer. If the province endorses a job offer, applicants will receive a Certificate of Endorsement in their mail. After receiving the endorsement, applicants can proceed with their AIP Canada PR application; remember to attach the Endorsement certificate to the Canada Permanent Residence application.

What is a Temporary Work Permit? 

A temporary work permit allows overseas workers to stay in Canada for one year or less. While staying in Canada, applicants can work or find a job they already have. The temporary work permit benefits those applicants applying for Atlantic Permanent Residency Canada through the Atlantic Immigration Program. With a temporary Canadian work permit, applicants can immigrate to Canada and start working for a valid Atlantic Provinces employer. They can submit a PR application within three months of applying for a Canadian work permit.

WHAT IS THE PROCESSING TIME TO GET CANADA PR THROUGH THE ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM (AIP)?

The processing time for the Atlantic Immigration Program is nearly six months. Applicants have to submit their Canada Permanent Resident visa application within 6 months of obtaining the Endorsement Certificate. If, for any reason, your Atlantic PR visa gets delayed, an applicant is granted to apply for a TWP (Temporary Work Permit) for a year.

WHAT ARE THE OTHER WAYS TO IMMIGRATE TO ATLANTIC CANADA?

Other than the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program you can also immigrate to Atlantic provinces through Provincial Nominee Programs. All four Atlantic provinces of Canada have their own PNP programs.
